A security operation in the Amazonas state seized over four tons of drugs and heavy weaponry during a confrontation with suspects on the Solimões River.

In a significant security operation, forces in the Amazonas state of Brazil successfully seized over four tons of drugs and ten high-caliber firearms during a raid on the Solimões River. The operation took place on Tuesday night near the Comunidade do Pesqueiro, close to the municipality of Manacapuru, and was spearheaded by the Special Operations Command (COE) and the Specialized Police Division in Response to Organized Crime (DRCO) following intelligence on drug trafficking in the area.

The operation unfolded dramatically when police intercepted two boats suspected of transporting both weapons and drugs, intended for Manaus and other nearby towns. Upon approach, the officers were met with gunfire and grenades from the suspects, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire. Although the suspects managed to flee, the police successfully recovered the abandoned vessels, which were laden with illicit cargo, highlighting the ongoing challenges the region faces regarding drug trafficking and organized crime.

Residents near the operation recorded videos of the gunfight, vividly capturing the sounds of gunfire that erupted during the confrontation. This incident underscores the persistent violence linked to drug trafficking operations in Brazil, particularly along its rivers, and raises concerns regarding public safety and the efficiency of law enforcement in combating organized crime in the region.
