A police operation near Barcelos in Amazonas led to the seizure of over 220 kilograms of skunk marijuana hidden in an aluminum boat.

In a police operation conducted near Barcelos, Amazonas, authorities seized over 220 kilograms of skunk marijuana on the night of Wednesday, the 18th. The drugs were concealed inside an aluminum boat, which was also collected as evidence. The operation followed a tip-off regarding drug transportation activities in the area. During the search, officers discovered a total of 193 drug packages, resulting in a combined weight of 220.63 kg after forensic examination.

The aluminum boat was located thanks to credible information about ongoing drug trafficking. Alongside the marijuana, law enforcement also confiscated a 15 HP engine that was likely used in the transportation of the drugs. At the time of the police's approach, there were no individuals present on the vessel, suggesting that the traffickers may have fled prior to the authorities’ arrival. The confiscated materials have been forwarded to the Interative Delegacy of Barcelos for further investigation.

The local police now aim to identify the individuals responsible for the transportation of these illegal substances. This incident highlights ongoing drug smuggling challenges faced by Brazilian authorities, particularly in remote regions like the Amazonas, where geographical difficulties can aid traffickers in evading law enforcement. The operation demonstrates the efforts being made to combat drug trafficking in Brazil and protect local communities from the harmful effects of such illegal activities.
