K-Semiconductor Technology Fully Unveiled in the AI Era... The Largest 'SemiCon Korea' Kicks Off
The largest semiconductor exhibition in Korea, 'SemiCon Korea 2026,' opened in Seoul, attracting a record number of companies and attendees, showcasing advancements in semiconductor technology including AI-driven efficiencies.
On the morning of November 11, the 'SemiCon Korea 2026,' the largest semiconductor exhibition in Korea, opened at the COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, before its official opening time, drawing significant crowds. The event hosts 550 participating companies and over 75,000 pre-registered attendees, marking it as the largest of its kind, where various companies showcased all processes related to semiconductor manufacturing, including the processing of wafers, design, and testing, thereby demonstrating the 'K-Semiconductor Ecosystem.'
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, instead of traditional booths, opted for keynote speeches to present their visions for the future. Samsung's CTO, Jong-Hyuck Song, highlighted advancements in their semiconductor products, stating that they have enhanced the quality of their sixth-generation HBM4 while also planning to introduce the next generation of 3D stacked Z-HBM technology. He expressed confidence in the process of mass production for HBM4, stating that customer feedback has been satisfactory and the technology is at a top level.
SK Hynix's Vice President Lee Seong-hoon emphasized 'efficiency through artificial intelligence' in his keynote address, discussing the complex and delicate nature of memory processes and the importance of AI in shortening developmental cycles. Various booths across the exhibition space showcased next-generation semiconductor technologies, including Hanmi Semiconductor's introduction of the 'Wide TC Bonder' equipment capable of producing HBM5 and HBM6, which reduces heat generation and thickness to improve performance, and diamond tool manufacturer Hwada Diamond's demonstrations of diamond blades and polishing materials that attracted significant attention from international visitors.
