Camps in the Fields and Drug Trade... Punjabi Singer Becomes a Smuggler

A Punjabi singer, once famous for her performances, has been arrested for her alleged involvement in a drug trafficking network in Punjab amid an anti-drug campaign.

In Punjab, as part of the ongoing campaign against drug abuse, Khanna police made a significant breakthrough under Operation Prahar-2 by arresting Punjabi singer Parmjeet Kaur Pummi and her brother Sarwan Singh Mirza while they were allegedly involved in drug trafficking. This operation has brought back to light Pummi's troubled journey from fame to controversy, including experiences with jail, bail, and now serious criminal charges related to narcotics.

Operation Prahar-2 was initiated at the behest of the Punjab government and under the supervision of the DG and DIG of the Ludhiana range, aiming to tackle drug traffickers, gangster networks, and their accomplices comprehensively. The Khanna police, leveraging helpline inputs, local intelligence, and surveillance, compiled a list of vulnerable areas targeted for the crackdown on illegal activities, leading to the apprehension of over 125 suspected anti-social elements on the first day alone.

The operation resulted in multiple arrests, including that of two major drug traffickers, one prominent smuggler, and associates of gangsters, marking a significant step in Punjab's fight against drug-related crime. This concerted effort highlights the state's commitment to combating the drug menace that has affected the region severely, showcasing both proactive policing and a focus on dismantling established drug networks.
