The situation regarding influenza in Lithuania has been published: two municipalities have been singled out due to complexity

Authorities report a significant number of flu-related deaths in Lithuania, with two municipalities facing particularly high rates of infection.

As of the sixth week of the year, Lithuania has recorded 55 flu-related deaths, predominantly among unvaccinated elderly individuals and those with chronic illnesses. The situation has been deemed challenging, especially in the municipalities of Rietavas and Šiauliai, where the infection rates surpass the national average. Specifically, Rietavas has reported 1,929 cases per 100,000 residents, while Šiauliai has over 1,800 cases per 100,000.

Last week alone, 301 individuals were hospitalized due to influenza, and 13 people died from the infection. Additionally, two more deaths were registered due to coronavirus complications. Notable variances in infection rates have been observed, with the lowest incidence in the Panevėžys region and the highest in Vilnius, indicating localized outbreaks.

Health authorities are focusing on vaccinations and public awareness to mitigate the outbreak, emphasizing the importance of vaccination for vulnerable populations. The situation calls for continued monitoring as the flu season progresses, particularly in areas identified as hotspots for the virus.
