OAB offers free legal support for women victims of harassment during Carnival in SP
The Brazilian Bar Association in São Paulo is expanding its project to offer free legal support for women experiencing harassment during the Carnival season.
The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in São Paulo is enhancing its legal support program, named 'OAB Por Elas', specifically for the 2026 Carnival season. This program aims to provide humane support and free legal assistance to women who have been victims of harassment, unwanted advances, and sexual violence during the celebration. Until February 17, support will be available both in-person in São Paulo and through an online hotline accessible across the state.
Led by the Commission of Women Lawyers, the initiative involves the collaboration of 368 trained volunteer lawyers who will offer specialized listening and referrals to protective networks. This year, the OAB-SP's efforts will extend beyond just remote and in-person assistance; they will also engage in support and awareness-raising actions at various street blocks and activities at the Anhembi Sambadrome, which are major venues for Carnival festivities in the capital.
The initiative is set to be visible throughout the 11 official megablock circuits, with volunteer lawyers identifiable by their designated T-shirts. They will actively participate in locations such as Ibirapuera Park, enhancing the visibility and reach of the support offered to women amidst the vibrant but potentially hazardous atmosphere of Carnival festivities.
