Sambadrome will have a reception bus and a mobile police station to assist victims of harassment during Carnival

The São Paulo government is introducing a reception bus and mobile police station at the Sambadrome to assist women facing harassment during Carnival festivities.

For the first time, the Sambadrome at Anhembi in northern São Paulo will have dedicated services for victims of harassment during the samba school parades. Starting from Friday, February 13th, and continuing through the weekend, a reception bus will be available, alongside a mobile station from the Women's Defense Police (Delegacia de Defesa da Mulher, DDM). These services are designed to ensure that women can report incidents of harassment, sexual assault, or any other type of violence without leaving the event, thus promoting a safer environment amid the celebrations.

The bus, known as Ônibus SP Por Todas, will be stationed at the venue from 7 PM to 5 AM on both Friday and Saturday. In addition to the bus, the DDM's mobile unit will operate from Friday through Sunday, providing immediate support and resources to those in need. This initiative reflects the São Paulo government's commitment to enhancing protection for women during the carnival, a time associated with both celebration and, unfortunately, instances of violence against women.

By increasing access to support services and ensuring that victims can receive assistance on-site, the government aims to respond immediately to incidents of violence during the festivities. This move is a critical step towards addressing and mitigating the issues of harassment that often arise during large public events, thereby encouraging a safer atmosphere for all participants in the carnival.
