OAB-SP retracts after announcing campaign for the freedom of an accused drug trafficker in the Moinho favela

The São Paulo Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB-SP) has withdrawn its support for a campaign promoting the release of an accused drug trafficker after backlash regarding the event's messaging.

The São Paulo Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB-SP) recently announced a public hearing to discuss the "criminalization of the Moinho favela" and a campaign for the release of Alessandra Moja Cunha, who has been imprisoned since September 2025. Cunha, along with her brother Leonardo Moja, who goes by 'Léo do Moinho', is accused of leading drug trafficking operations in the region. However, following public criticism, OAB-SP modified its messaging, indicating that it was the Commission on Human Rights that had convened the hearing to address growing concerns about police violence and accountability during operations in the favela.
