Stage assembly begins and Fernando de Noronha Administration announces carnival schedule
The stage setup for the carnival in Fernando de Noronha has begun, with the official program announced amidst concerns from locals about delays.
The carnival celebrations in Fernando de Noronha are set to kick off as the stage assembly started on February 10 at Praça São Miguel, located in Vila dos Remédios. Although the stage work has commenced, the area has not yet been decorated, and the official carnival program was revealed by the island's administration on the evening of February 9. Local business owners and resident representatives have expressed their dissatisfaction with the delayed announcement of the event schedule and the lack of an official tourism calendar for the island, which they believe hampers planning for both tourists and locals.
The main carnival events are scheduled to take place from Saturday, February 14, to Tuesday, February 17, starting at 7 PM daily. The festivities will feature performances from the Cortejo Maracatu Nação Noronha, the Bloco Unidos da Ilha, and various shows by well-known artists including Silvério Pessoa, Cleiton Santana, Nado Carvalho, and Jefferson Moura. This year's program aims to engage both residents and visitors in the cultural celebration while fostering local tourism, which has seen its fair share of challenges due to logistical organization and promotion.
In a novel addition to this year's events, the Administration has introduced a 'Ressaca de Carnaval', which aims to extend the carnival joy even after the traditional celebration days. Such initiatives could potentially stimulate more extended tourism activity in the region, encouraging visitors to stay longer and explore Fernando de Noronha beyond the usual festive appraisals. These efforts will help address the concerns raised by local business owners by providing a more structured tourism experience and fostering community involvement in event planning.
