GNI fire: Lagos begins enumeration of victims
Lagos State has initiated a victim enumeration exercise to support those affected by the Great Nigeria Insurance House fire from last year.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has launched a victim enumeration exercise to provide post-disaster recovery support for individuals impacted by the catastrophic fire at the Great Nigeria Insurance House, which occurred on Martins Street, Lagos Island, late last year. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the National Emergency Management Agency, highlighting the coordinated response to the disaster. The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, emphasized the importance of the enumeration process in identifying and documenting victims for comprehensive support.
The enumeration exercise aims to facilitate the recovery efforts by documenting those affected and enabling follow-up actions. Relatives of victims and individuals who suffered losses due to the fire are encouraged to attend the enumeration sessions scheduled for February 9 and 13 at the Adeyemi Bero Centre, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja. The local government is actively requesting the public's cooperation during this process to ensure thorough documentation of the victims and their needs. Oke-Osanyintolu called this exercise essential for ensuring that affected individuals receive adequate recovery support.
This initiative not only aims to provide immediate relief to the victims but also underscores the ongoing commitment of the Lagos State government to disaster management and victim support. By engaging the community and encouraging participation, the government seeks to create a support system that can aid in rebuilding the lives affected by such calamities. The effort signifies a step towards effective recovery strategy in disaster-stricken areas, ensuring that victims are not forgotten and are provided with the necessary assistance they require to recover from their losses.
