Kano fire: FG, APC govs donate N8bn to victims

The Federal Government of Nigeria and the All Progressives Congress governors have pledged a total of N8 billion to support victims of the recent fire disaster at the Kano Singer Market.

A recent fire disaster struck the Kano Singer Market, prompting a swift response from the Federal Government of Nigeria, which has pledged N5 billion in support for the victims. Vice President Kashim Shettima visited the market to convey the government's sympathy and commitment to aid in the recovery efforts. During his visit, he emphasized the importance of this intervention in helping victims rebuild their businesses and revitalize economic activities in the region.

In addition to the federal assistance, the All Progressives Governors Forum, under the leadership of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, announced a pledge of N3 billion to further support the recovery and rebuilding process. Shettima highlighted that President Bola Tinubu had approved the federal funds as part of the palliative measures to assist those affected by the disaster. The fires at the market have disrupted commercial life in Kano, which is a key economic hub in northern Nigeria.

The combined N8 billion pledged by both the federal government and the governors signifies a strong governmental response to the challenges faced by the victims of the Kano fire disaster. This funding is intended not only to help individual merchants restore their livelihoods but also to ensure the overall economic stability of the market, which plays a crucial role in the region's economy. The disaster has highlighted the need for effective disaster management strategies and support systems for vulnerable communities in the face of such incidents.
