Lagos inaugurates fire marshal club, holds safety walk
Lagos State has launched a Fire Marshal Club and organized a Safety Walk to enhance community engagement in fire prevention and emergency response.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has officially inaugurated a Fire Marshal Club aimed at fostering greater community involvement in fire safety and emergency readiness. This initiative was highlighted in a press release from the Lagos State Government, emphasizing the importance of local participation in safeguarding lives and property from fire hazards.
The Safety Walk initiated by the Fire and Rescue Service took place in Ikeja, beginning at the Service Headquarters and covering critical locations such as the Ikeja Fire Station. This awareness campaign was designed to educate residents about fire safety practices and promote a proactive stance towards community engagement in fire prevention efforts.
Controller General Margaret Adeseye acknowledged that while the incidence of fires in Lagos remains an issue, there has been a notable decrease in cases between 2024 and 2025. She emphasized that through shared responsibility, adherence to safety protocols, and community collaboration, the frequency of fire outbreaks can be significantly lowered, thereby enhancing public safety.
