Combat medic Cīrule: Now a regular heat source in Ukraine is a target for enemy drones

Combat medic Cīrule shares her struggles with inadequate heating during the winter in Ukraine and highlights an ongoing fundraising campaign by LSM to support energy needs for affected communities.

Combat medic Cīrule describes the harsh winter conditions she faces in Ukraine, where both outdoor and indoor temperatures are uncomfortably low due to electricity shortages that provide heating for only a few hours each day. This situation is shared by thousands across the country, who are struggling to keep warm amid the ongoing conflict. In light of the approaching fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Latvian Public Media (LSM) has partnered with 'Ziedot.lv' for a fundraising campaign aimed at providing essential energy resources to affected communities.

The Russian attacks on Ukraine have devastated energy infrastructure in many areas, leading to urgent needs for heating and electricity. The funds raised will be directed towards purchasing generators and ensuring that communities have access to these vital resources. The campaign runs from February 9 to February 24, offering a crucial opportunity for Latvian citizens to contribute by either calling a hotline or donating online.

Cīrule emphasizes that areas near the frontline are more accessible in terms of warmth, as accommodations there can be relatively warmer than the homes where she resides. With only six hours of electricity and no central heating, those like her often have to resort to oil heating during the cold nights. The collective effort from the Finnish public underscores the solidarity with Ukraine during these challenging times, urging people to act and help those in dire need of heating.
