Estonian judoka won the cadet European Cup stage
Estonian judoka Georg Sebastian Nõges secured first place in the under-73 kg category at the European Cadet Cup held in Rome.
Georg Sebastian Nõges, an Estonian judoka, showcased exceptional skill and composure during a competitive day at the European Cadet Cup in Rome, clinching the top spot in the under-73 kg category. His victory came after a tense final match against a Spanish opponent, demonstrating Nõges' technical superiority and determination to win. The Estonian Judo Federation expressed pride in Nõges’ achievement, emphasizing the significance of his performance against a background of tough competition.
In addition to Nõges' success, fellow Estonian judoka Joosep Toomel also performed admirably, securing a second-place finish in the under-81 kg category. Juhan Mettis, the sports director of the Estonian Judo Federation, awarded the silver medal to Toomel and attended the event in his capacity as the European governing body's sports commissioner. Mettis highlighted that having 17 participants at the Cadet Cup illustrates the depth of talent in Estonia and reflects the country's commitment to nurturing young athletes.
The event saw over 750 competitors, underscoring the competitive nature of the tournament. Further underscoring Estonia's rising judo prowess, Daniel Tammin achieved a fifth-place finish in the under-81 kg category, contributing to a strong overall performance for the Estonian team. The results from the Cadet Cup indicate that Estonia is on the right track in developing its young judo talents and competing effectively on the European stage.
