Estonian youth athletes Fred Gustavson and Henri Salumäe excelled at the FIS Youth Cup held in Kandersteg, Switzerland, bringing home one gold and one bronze medal for their country. The 17-year-old Gustavson clinched gold in the under-15 category for athletes born between 2008 and 2010, while the 14-year-old Salumäe achieved a commendable bronze medal in the under-12 category for those born between 2011 and 2013. Both athletes showcased their talent and determination in a competitive field, reflecting the strong tradition of Nordic combined sports in Estonia.
Gustavson commented on his performance, highlighting his impressive jump of 70.5 meters, which was the longest air flight of the day. In the skiing portion, he secured the second-fastest time, expressing a desire to be first but ultimately being pleased with his overall positioning, which solidified his gold medal win. The competitive landscape was challenging, as he noted that he has faced some of his competitors in previous continental cup events, where they had ranked ahead of him.
