You Seung-eun becomes the first Korean athlete to advance to the Olympic finals in 'Snowboard Big Air'... Medal hunt tomorrow morning
Korean snowboarder You Seung-eun has made history by becoming the first Korean to reach the finals in the Olympic women’s Snowboard Big Air event.
You Seung-eun, an 18-year-old snowboarder from South Korea, has reached the finals of the women's Snowboard Big Air at the 2026 Winter Olympics taking place in Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. Competing in the qualifiers, she scored a total of 166.50 points, placing fourth among 29 competitors and earning a spot in the finals set to occur on the morning of February 10. Her performance was marked by confidence and skill, showcasing her prepared techniques throughout the three qualification rounds.
The Snowboard Big Air involves athletes skiing down a slope over 30 meters high and demonstrating aerial tricks off a large jump ramp. Judging is based on various factors including jump distance and the execution of tricks across the jump and landing phases. This is the first time a South Korean female snowboarder has reached the Olympic finals in this event, with the Snowboard Big Air being included as an official Olympic category since the 2018 PyeongChang Games.
You Seung-eun's remarkable skills have been recognized internationally, having placed second in the women's Big Air at the 2023 FIS Junior Snowboarding World Championships. Additionally, her silver medal at the FIS World Cup held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, last December has raised expectations for her performance at the Olympics. As the first South Korean woman to compete in this event at the Olympic level, her advancement to the finals has sparked excitement and hope for a potential medal win.
