Changes to the Red Metro Line: 4 stations will close earlier, detailed schedules
Four stations on Athens' Red Metro Line will be closing earlier due to ongoing maintenance work.
In Athens, significant changes have been implemented to the operational hours of four key stations on the Red Metro Line (Line 2) due to maintenance activities scheduled until Thursday. The stations affected are Syntagma, Acropolis, Syggrou-Fix, and Neos Kosmos, which will now close at 21:40 from Sunday to Thursday. This shift is necessitated by essential works that include the replacement of railway tracks and the installation of a 5G network, aiming to enhance the safety and connectivity of the transit system.
Despite the earlier closing hours for these specific stations on Line 2, Syntagma Station will continue to operate normally for Line 3, maintaining its role as a critical hub within the wider metro system that services connections to the Municipal Theatre, Ducal Palace, and the airport. Such adjustments highlight the ongoing efforts by the Athens Urban Transport Organization (STASY) to modernize and improve public transport in the city, although they may temporarily inconvenience commuters who rely on these stations during the evenings.
The changes reflect a broader trend in urban planning where modernization of transit infrastructure is prioritized to accommodate future demands, including technological advancements like 5G connectivity. As work progresses through the week, commuters are advised to remain informed about schedule changes and to plan their travel accordingly, ensuring that the disruptions are minimized during peak usage hours. These updates are part of an initiative to sustain an efficient and reliable metro service in Athens, particularly as public transport continues to gain importance in the post-pandemic recovery phase.
