Metro: Traffic regulations on Line 2 - Which stations are closing, at what times

Traffic regulations will be implemented on Line 2 of the Athens Metro from March 15 to March 23 due to construction work, leading to early station closures.

Starting from Sunday, March 15, temporary traffic regulations will take effect on Line 2 of the Athens Metro, particularly within the section between Omonia and Acropolis. These adjustments are necessary due to ongoing construction work for replacing rail tracks and installing a 5G network. According to updates from the Athens Urban Transport Organization (STASY), stations such as Omonia, University, Syntagma, and Acropolis will close at 21:40 from Sunday to Thursday, which is two and a half hours earlier than the scheduled operating hours.

The Syntagma station will remain operational for Line 3, providing connections to the Municipal Theatre, Doukissis Plakentias, and the Airport, while the Omonia station will serve Line 1 to Kifisia and Piraeus. During the work hours, train service on Line 2 will continue to run between the stations Anthoupoli and Metaxourgeio, as well as from Elliniko to Syggrou Fix. This adjustment highlights the authorities' efforts to upgrade infrastructure and technological capabilities in the metro system, aiming to enhance passenger experience in the long run.

These early closures may disrupt evening commuters; however, they are essential for the timely completion of vital infrastructure improvements that will accommodate future traffic and technological demands. Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and be aware of the operational adjustments during this period of construction.
