Police seize 12 kg of drugs transported by taxi driver in Santana, Amapá

Police in Amapá arrested a taxi driver and an accomplice for transporting 12 kilograms of drugs, including cocaine and marijuana, in Santana.

On Friday, October 6, 2023, the Specialized Narcotics Repression Division (Denarc) of the Civil Police in Amapá executed a successful operation in Santana, resulting in two arrests for drug trafficking. A 45-year-old man, a taxi driver, and a 21-year-old woman were apprehended after an intelligence operation revealed plans for transporting a substantial quantity of narcotics within the municipality.

During the operation, police tracked the taxi driver to the Industrial District, where they conducted a stop and discovered a large quantity of drugs—specifically 12 kilograms of a mix comprising cocaine and marijuana. The drugs were concealed in a container, indicating a significant and organized effort to distribute illegal substances. The woman, identified as the intended recipient of the drugs, was also arrested shortly thereafter in the Hospitalidade neighborhood, highlighting the collaborative nature of their operation.

The crackdown reflects ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the region. This incident underscores the challenges posed by narcotics distribution using public transport, as well as the importance of intelligence-led policing in addressing such crimes. The quick response by the Denarc not only resulted in the seizure of a considerable amount of drugs but also served as a warning to others involved in drug-related activities in Amapá.
