Cedae reduces water production again, affecting supply in the capital and Baixada Fluminense

Cedae's water production has been reduced due to a new leak, causing supply issues in capital Rio de Janeiro and surrounding areas.

Cedae has once again reduced water production at the Guandu Water Treatment Station in Nova Iguaçu due to a new leak, which has exacerbated ongoing supply issues that started on Thursday, October 5, when a pipe ruptured. Although repairs were made, further defects have led to continued disruptions, and Cedae has yet to announce when repairs will be completed.

The affected water network supplies several municipalities, including Belford Roxo, Duque de Caxias, Mesquita, Nova Iguaçu, Nilópolis, Queimados, and São João de Meriti, as well as the capital's South, North, and Central Zones. As a result of the reduced capacity, currently operating at only 55% efficiency, residents in these areas are left managing minimal water supply.

Cedae is advising residents in the affected regions to conserve water from tanks and cisterns for essential activities. The restoration of supply will be gradual and could take up to 72 hours once repairs are completed, with higher elevation areas particularly affected by the delays in service restoration.
