Finnair is renewing its fleet - ordering 18 aircraft
Finnair has announced a major investment by ordering 18 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft to modernize its European narrow-body fleet.
Finnair has embarked on a significant fleet renewal strategy by placing an order for 18 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, marking the airline's largest investment in over two decades. In addition to the confirmed orders, the deal includes options for 16 more aircraft and purchase rights for 12 additional units. This move is seen as a competitive response to Airbus's A220 model, which had previously outperformed Embraer in order numbers last year.
Currently, Finnair's narrow-body fleet primarily consists of older models such as the A319, A320, and A321, and this transition to newer aircraft is anticipated to enhance operational efficiency. The airline plans to complement its new orders by acquiring up to 12 used Airbus aircraft, aiming to replace outdated A319 and A320 models with more modern A320/321ceo planes. Finnair's CEO, Turkka Kuusisto, emphasized that these investments would not only modernize the fleet but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions, aligning with the growing focus on sustainability in the aviation industry.
The new E195-E2 aircraft are touted as the quietest in their category, offering improved passenger comfort with their design. This strategic fleet renewal reflects Finnair’s commitment to enhancing its service offerings and operational sustainability, which is increasingly essential in the competitive airline market. As the aviation sector navigates post-pandemic recovery, Finnair’s proactive measures will likely position it favorably for future growth opportunities.
