Finnair acquires both used and new aircraft

Finnair plans to purchase both new and used aircraft to renew its narrow-body fleet for European traffic.

Finnair has announced its intention to purchase both new and used aircraft as part of a major fleet renewal strategy aimed at enhancing its narrow-body operations within Europe. The airline has formalized an order with Brazilian manufacturer Embraer for 18 new E195-E2 model planes, which are expected to significantly bolster its service capabilities in the regional market.

In addition to the new aircraft, Finnair is looking to acquire up to 12 used Airbus A320 or A321 jets to further modernize its fleet. This dual approach reflects a strategic investment aimed at optimizing operational efficiency and meeting growing travel demand within Europe. The total investment designated for these aircraft acquisitions is projected to be around two billion euros by the end of 2029, as stated by CEO Turkka Kuusisto in discussions with Reuters.

This move not only emphasizes Finnair's commitment to fleet modernization but also highlights the airline's response to competitive pressures in the European air travel market. As Finnair undertakes this significant investment, it aims to position itself as a leader in the region, enhancing customer experience and operational effectiveness.
