Huge bill from strikes for Finnair
Finnair's revenue and profitability rose in the last quarter of 2025 due to increased passenger numbers and favorable operational conditions despite challenges from environmental regulations.
Finnair has reported a modest revenue increase of 0.8% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 789.5 million euros in the last quarter of 2025. The airline saw a rise in passenger numbers by 2.2%, reaching 2.9 million, and an improvement in passenger load factor, which hit 77.1%. This positive growth reflects the company's resilient operational performance during a challenging market environment.
CEO Turkka Kuusisto highlighted the airline's strong finish to the year, with core operating profit jumping from 12.1 million euros last year to 46.4 million euros. The increase can be attributed to a combination of robust sales and improved operational effectiveness. Factors such as lower fuel prices and favorable currency exchange rates also contributed to the financial boost, although the company faces rising costs related to environmental regulations, including the adoption of renewable fuels and rising navigation fees.
Despite the promising financial results, Finnair acknowledges the ongoing pressures from environmental legislation that will require continued investments. The company's strategic focus on maintaining financial stability while navigating these challenges will be crucial as it prepares for the upcoming fiscal periods, emphasizing their commitment to both profitability and sustainability in the rapidly changing airline industry.
