The Estonian table tennis championships concluded in Tallinn at the TalTech sports hall, with Pert Marten Lehtlaan and Airi Avameri being crowned the respective champions of the men's and women's individual categories. This marks the second consecutive year that 18-year-old Lehtlaan, representing the Viimsi table tennis club, claimed the national title, defeating his doubles partner Madis Moos from TTÜ Sports Club in the final with a score of 0:4. Lehtlaan had earlier shown his formidable skills by clinching the title alongside Moos in doubles, demonstrating a strong partnership that will continue into 2024.
Airi Avameri secured her eighth national championship title in women's singles, showcasing her consistent performance throughout the tournament. In the finals, she defeated Reelica Hanson of TTÜ Sports Club with a score of 4:1 after convincingly overcoming Arina Litvinova in the semifinals (4:1) and narrowly beating Hanson’s teammate Vitalia Reinolt in a close match that ended 4:3. Avameri's experience and prowess on the court have clearly maintained her position as a top player in Estonian table tennis.
The success of both Lehtlaan and Avameri at these championships highlights the competitive spirit of Estonian table tennis. Their victories not only reflect personal achievements but also the growth and potential of the sport in Estonia, as younger talents like Lehtlaan continue to rise and compete at high levels. With upcoming tournaments, both champions will look to defend their titles and further establish their legacies in the sport.
