Tartu hosted the first winter Estonian champions in beach volleyball

The first winter Estonian championships in beach volleyball concluded in Tartu, where Mart Tiisaar and Dmitri Korotkov, as well as Liisa-Lotta and Grete Jürgenson, claimed the championship titles.

The inaugural winter Estonian championships in beach volleyball took place in Tartu's NET sports hall, culminating in a remarkable display of talent and competition. The tournament featured women's semifinals where the Jürgenson sisters faced Ave Kuusk and Katariina Vengerfeldt, alongside Marta-Mia Ploomipuu and Hannemai Hanimägi against Maret Kuuse and Lenna Kuusik. Both semifinal matches saw the finalists demonstrating their skills impressively, with the Jürgenson sisters and Hanimägi with Ploomipuu clearly outplaying their opponents.

In the women's final, competition was fierce, with both teams having opportunities to secure the title. Ultimately, the Jürgenson sisters emerged victorious, clinching the championship with a close match that ended 2:0, with game scores of 21:17 and 21:18 against Ploomipuu and Hanimägi, who took home the silver medals. The bronze medals were awarded to Kuuse and Vengerfeldt after their opponents did not participate in the playoff for third place.

This event not only highlighted the growing popularity of beach volleyball in Estonia but also showcased the ability of athletes to compete in the sport irrespective of the season, indicating a possible shift in how beach volleyball can be perceived and played in colder climates.
