Lokotar and Kello crowned Estonian champions
Priit Lokotar and Emilia Kello won the Estonian championship titles in international checkers.
In the Estonian championships for international checkers, young master Priit Lokotar emerged victorious by securing 12 points across seven rounds. His impressive performance comes on the heels of a bronze medal achievement at last October's Youth World Championships, highlighting his rapid progress in the sport. As a rising star in the checker community, Lokotar's title further cements his reputation as a formidable competitor.
In the same championship, grandmaster Kaido Leesmann claimed the second position with 10 points, while another grandmaster, Urmo Ilves, also reached 10 points but took third place. The competition showcased the skill level of Estonia's top players, reflecting both the depth of talent in the region and the high-stakes environment of the championship.
In the women’s category, young player Emilia Kello captured the championship title, following closely behind her were grandmaster Kaari Vainonen and Piret Viirma, both of whom also demonstrated impressive skill. Kello's success contributes to the visibility and development of female players in the field, signifying a growing interest and participation in checkers among young women in Estonia.
