Sofia Goggia wins and grabs the crystal globe

Italian skier Sofia Goggia won the last giant slalom of the season in Lillehammer, securing the small crystal globe in the overall standings.

Sofia Goggia, the Italian ski racer, clinched the final giant slalom of the season held in Lillehammer, with an impressive time of 1:29.23. Her victory was marked by a narrow lead of 0.32 seconds over Swiss competitor Corinne Suter. In a closely contested race for third place, German skier Kira Weidle-Winkelmann edged out her compatriot Emma Aicher by just a hundredth of a second, pointing to the competitive nature of the event. This win also positioned Goggia as a dominant force in the season, having previously struggled at her home Olympics in Milan-Cortina, where she had to withdraw from the event.

Goggia's win in Lillehammer secured her the small crystal globe for the giant slalom discipline, finishing the season with a total of 549 points. She significantly outpaced her closest rivals, with Alice Robinson from Australia, who finished in 16th place in Lillehammer, accumulating 386 points in the overall standings, and Aicher with 354 points. Goggia's consistent performance throughout the season has solidified her status as a leading competitor in alpine skiing.

At 33 years old, Goggia adds this achievement to her remarkable career, having previously won the crystal globe in the speed event four times. This latest victory signifies her versatility and skill across different skiing disciplines, further elevating her reputation in the sport as she continues to push boundaries and aim for more victories in the future.
