Italian Pirovano Confirms Small Globe in Downhill with Victory

Italian skier Laura Pirovano secured the Small Crystal Globe in downhill skiing after winning the final race of the discipline in Lillehammer.

In the concluding race of the downhill skiing season held in Lillehammer, Italian skier Laura Pirovano clinched victory, thereby confirming her title as the holder of the Small Crystal Globe. Before the final race, Pirovano had a comfortable lead of 28 points over second-placed German skier Emma Aicher. This win not only solidified Pirovano's victory but also marked a highlight in her competitive season as she triumphed over her nearest competitors by a significant margin.

Aicher, who was expected to challenge Pirovano for the title, finished the race in fifth place, trailing Pirovano by a narrow margin of 37 hundredths of a second. The competition witnessed an exciting finish with American skier Breezy Johnson taking second place, just 15 hundredths behind the champion, while German skier Kira Weidle-Winkelmann secured the third spot, finishing 25 hundredths behind Pirovano. This race was pivotal in determining the champions of the season, particularly for Pirovano who displayed exceptional skill and consistency throughout.

Additionally, the event in Lillehammer marked a significant moment for Slovenian skier Ilka Štuhec, who announced that she would retire from competitive skiing following this race. A two-time world champion, Štuhec's departure from the racing circuit after this season brings an end to an illustrious career in which she has made significant contributions to the sport. The super-G race is set to conclude the season in both men's and women's disciplines, thus concluding the remarkable year of skiing competitions.
