LIZDA provided financial support of 368,847 euros to members last year

Last year, the Latvian Education and Science Employees Union (LIZDA) provided financial support totaling 368,847 euros to its members, representing an increase over the previous year.

Last year, the Latvian Education and Science Employees Union (LIZDA) disbursed 368,847 euros from its Social Assistance Fund, marking a 2.27% increase compared to the previous year. The union reported that 27% of its total membership benefitted from this support, with a total of 4,962 instances of assistance registered. While the overall number of support cases decreased by 1,118 from 2024, the average amount of support received per member increased considerably, reflecting a shift in the union's aid strategy.

The average financial help granted to each member rose to 74.33 euros last year, up from 59.30 euros the year before. This growth highlights a prioritization of funds towards specific needs, particularly for medications, childbirth, and healthcare expenses. The LIZDA emphasizes that the increase in financial assistance aims to address the rising costs of medical care and related necessities that its members face.

Support amounts varied from 20 to 400 euros, depending on the type of assistance requested. The majority of cases involved aid for medications and medical services, totaling 1,607 instances, although this number is slightly lower than the previous year. Furthermore, there were 871 cases related to hospitalization and surgical expenses, indicating the pressing health-related financial concerns affecting the membership and the union's responsiveness to these issues.
