The NIMC has emphasized that the flyer is fake and warned the public against using the portal advertised therein for any modifications to their NIN data. In an official communication via its X handle, the commission reiterated the importance of using the official platform for such modifications to avoid potential fraud.

In the alert, the NIMC specifically mentioned that all modifications to NIN data should only be conducted through their official channel, which is accessible at https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng. The fake flyer misleadingly presented the NIMC and Federal Government logos and claimed that the correction portal was opened in response to a high volume of complaints regarding NIN data issues. It inaccurately listed various modification options such as name, gender, and birth date corrections, directing users to a suspicious domain "gvly.xyz" that is not affiliated with the government.

This warning comes at a critical time when many Nigerians are working to ensure that their identification details are accurate and up-to-date. The proliferation of misinformation online poses a serious risk, as potential victims may fall prey to scams related to sensitive personal information like the NIN.
