LIVE: Biathlete Bendika starts in the last pursuit distance of the World Cup season

Biathlete Bendika commenced the final pursuit race of the World Cup season, starting in 32nd place, 1 minute and 50 seconds behind leader Hanna Öberg from Sweden.

Latvian biathlete Bendika began her last pursuit race of the World Cup season in 32nd position, trailing the leader, Swedish athlete Hanna Öberg, by a considerable margin of 1 minute and 50 seconds. In the first shooting stage, Bendika missed her shot on the third attempt and had to continue the race from 42nd position due to a penalty lap. French competitor Julia Simon took the lead after the first shooting, ahead of Öberg, who had to ski two penalty laps.

During the race, Simon maintained her lead after the second shooting, where she did not make any mistakes, while Öberg followed closely, just 0.6 seconds behind. Bendika improved her position with perfect shooting, advancing to 38th place. The profile of the race illustrated the intense competition among athletes, with shooting accuracy becoming a decisive factor in determining their standings in the event.

Later on Saturday, the men's 12.5-kilometer pursuit race will feature young talent Rihards Lozbers, alongside veteran biathletes Andrejs Rastorgujevs and Renārs Birkentāls, representing Latvia. Both men’s and women’s teams will add points to their season totals in a mass start race scheduled for Sunday. While Lozbers is listed in the provisional start list, there is no female representation from Latvia in the women’s event, highlighting a disparity in team presence at this level of competition.
