On Friday, five drivers caught driving under the influence

On Friday in Latvia, five drivers were caught for drunk driving amid several road accidents that resulted in injuries to 21 individuals.

On a recent Friday, Latvia witnessed a surge in road traffic incidents, with 21 individuals reported injured across the country. The State Police noted that a total of 138 traffic accidents were registered, with 11 resulting in injuries. The capital region, Riga, experienced the highest number of incidents, recording nine accidents that left 14 people injured, including one cyclist.

In addition to the alarming number of accidents, the State Police apprehended five drivers for operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol. In two of these cases, the vehicles were confiscated or the value was demanded from the drivers. This highlights ongoing concerns regarding drunk driving and road safety in Latvia, prompting law enforcement to increase surveillance and enforcement of traffic regulations.

The State Police also issued a total of 534 administrative violation protocols for various traffic offenses on that day. Out of these, 231 were specifically for speeding, while two were related to aggressive driving. This further emphasizes the need for stricter adherence to traffic laws to enhance road safety and reduce the occurrence of accidents and injuries. The government and police are likely to continue monitoring the situation closely to implement measures aimed at improving public safety on the roads.
