The State Police reported that in addition to the injuries, six drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, while one driver was apprehended for driving under the influence of narcotics. The overall traffic situation in Latvia on that day included a significant number of accidents, with 102 reported in total. Within the Riga region alone, 50 accidents occurred, leading to injuries for three individuals. The incidents reflect a troubling trend in road safety, highlighting the need for continued vigilance among drivers regarding the dangers of impaired driving and adherence to traffic laws.
Of note, a reported 15 traffic accidents occurred in Zemgale and Latgale regions without any injuries, while 12 accidents in Kurzeme resulted in three injuries, including two pedestrians. Additionally, the State Police revealed that arrests for drunk driving were spread across the regions, showcasing a nationwide problem of impaired driving that authorities are attempting to combat through enforcement and awareness.
