Nine drunk drivers caught on Latvian roads on Friday
In Latvia, nine drivers were apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol within a 24-hour period.
During a recent 24-hour period, Latvian authorities reported catching nine drivers operating vehicles while intoxicated. The State Police confirmed that four of these incidents occurred in Latgale region, with two each in the Rīga region and Zemgale, and one in Kurzeme. Following these arrests, three administrative infringement processes and six criminal proceedings were initiated, with the value of the vehicles involved set to be reclaimed in all cases.
Alongside these drunk driving incidents, a total of 210 individuals were caught exceeding the permitted speed limit across Latvia. The regions most affected included Vidzeme with 78 violations, Kurzeme with 52, and Latgale with 48. There were also 23 speed violations recorded in the Rīga region and nine in Zemgale. Moreover, four drivers were cited for aggressive driving, with the majority of those infractions reported from Zemgale and Vidzeme.
In a broader context of road safety, during this period, the police processed a total of 576 administrative infringement decisions. The data indicates a significant enforcement effort by Latvian authorities to combat road violations, particularly regarding alcohol consumption and speeding, which continues to be a serious issue contributing to road safety concerns in the country.
