The owner of the estate was horrified: brazen criminals cut down dozens of trees
A woman reported to the police that several trees were cut down on her property in Pasvalys district, leading to an ongoing investigation for theft.
On Friday morning, police were notified by a woman, born in 1957, who discovered on March 18th that numerous trees had been felled on her uninhabited estate in Brenčiai village, located in Pasvalys district. This shocking incident involved the cutting down of 15 linden trees, two birch trees, two ash trees, one willow, and around 11 apple trees, along with the pruning of branches from four oak trees and other trees on the property.
The woman's discovery raised significant concerns about both the environmental damage caused and the audacity of the criminals involved in the act. Initial assessments of the property are underway to determine the total extent of financial damages, as the property has been left vulnerable to such aggressive acts. Furthermore, the local police have confirmed that a pre-trial investigation for theft has been initiated, underscoring the seriousness with which they are treating this matter.
This incident highlights broader issues of rural crime and the protection of private property in Lithuania, calling for heightened vigilance among property owners and potentially leading to discussions on policy changes regarding environmental protection and crime prevention in rural areas. It raises alarms about safety in the countryside and the need for community awareness and law enforcement presence to deter such brazen criminal activities.
