Team Nigeria departs for Commonwealth Wheelchair Basketball qualifiers
The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Team is departing for Angola to compete in the qualifiers for the Commonwealth Games.
The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Team is set to embark on their journey to Luanda, Angola, to participate in the 2026 IWBF Africa 3Γ3 Championship, slated for March 22 to 27. This championship is a crucial qualifying tournament for the Commonwealth Games, and the Nigerian team is eager to showcase their skills and attain a good performance. A total of eight athletes will represent Nigeria, enhancing the nation's presence in international wheelchair basketball competitions.
Prior to their departure, the team underwent extensive preparations, with a two-week closed training camp conducted at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja from March 8 to 21. This focused training period was essential in honing the team's skills and strengthening their cohesion as they look to secure a spot in the Commonwealth Games. The athletes are underscored by an ethos of resilience and determination, which has been emphasized throughout their training.
Seyi Johnson, the President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, expressed optimism about the team's ability to perform well.
