Operation against organized crime in Amapá ends with 11 arrested and 5 dead in confrontation
A national operation in Amapá, aimed at combating organized crime, resulted in 11 arrests and 5 fatalities during police confrontations.
The national operation Desarme/Renoe concluded in Amapá on Thursday (19), targeting the expansion of criminal organizations in the region. Conducted by the Special Police Operations Battalion (Bope) and Tactical Forces, the operation involved patrols in the metropolitan area, starting on Saturday (14). In total, the police reported 11 arrests for various crimes, including the capture of seven traffickers and incidents of five police confrontations.
Colonel Wilkson Santana, the Bope commander, stated that the primary goal was to disrupt drug trafficking, deemed by authorities as the foundation of criminal factions in the area. Amapá's strategic location, with Amazon rivers serving as drug distribution routes, further complicates the situation. Santana emphasized the connection between drug trafficking and other crimes, asserting that most criminal activities stem from the desire for drugs, whether through theft or murder driven by drug-related debts.
By removing drugs from circulation, law enforcement aims to weaken these criminal organizations. The operation's insights reflect the broader challenge in mitigating drug-related crime in Brazil, particularly in regions like Amapá, where geographical factors enhance the operations of drug traffickers. The situation underscores the importance of coordinated law enforcement efforts against organized crime in the country.
