Professor from Paraná creates a digital 'school' inside Minecraft

A teacher from Araucária, Brazil, has established a digital school named CraftSapiens within the game Minecraft to engage students in interactive classes.

Helton Álvares Gonçalves, a teacher at a private school in Araucária, Brazil, founded CraftSapiens, a digital school that exists solely within the Minecraft game. The initiative began in 2020, motivated by his desire to connect with his students during the pandemic after the loss of his mother. The idea was to create an engaging and interactive learning environment outside traditional classroom settings.

Since its inception, CraftSapiens has gained significant traction, boasting over 30,000 members on its Discord server, which supports the lessons. The project has helped foster an innovative learning experience that accommodates young learners of various ages, reaching an average of 40 to 60 students per class last year. The unique approach not only allows students to engage with academic content more actively but also promotes collaboration and creativity as they build and explore within the Minecraft universe.

This initiative highlights the evolving nature of education, where digital platforms like Minecraft are being employed to enhance learning engagement. As schools continue to adapt to new educational challenges, projects like CraftSapiens serve as a pioneering example of how technology can facilitate unique and interactive educational opportunities for students, potentially reshaping future teaching methods.
