Unemployment: Annual decrease of 5.9% in registered unemployed at DYPA in February

In February 2026, the total number of registered unemployed individuals in Greece reached 903,928, marking a decrease of 56,206 persons, or 5.9%, compared to the same month in the previous year and a reduction of 19,925 individuals, or 2.2%, from January 2026. Of those registered, 412,601 individuals (45.6%) have been registered for 12 months or longer, while 491,327 individuals (54.4%) have been registered for less than 12 months. Notably, the male unemployment rate stands at 319,926 individuals (35.4%) in contrast to 584,002 female unemployed individuals (64.6%).
The age group of 30 to 44 years accounts for the largest portion of registered unemployed, with 268,539 individuals (29.7%). Furthermore, the highest educational attainment among the unemployed is secondary and post-secondary education, with 441,289 individuals (48.8%) falling into this category. Regionally, Attica has the highest number of registered unemployed at 262,783 individuals (29.1%), followed by Central Macedonia with 167,037 individuals (18.5%).
The data highlights a positive trend in unemployment reduction in Greece, indicating potential economic recovery and stability. However, the significant gender disparity in unemployment rates, along with the concentration of unemployment among younger age groups and those with certain educational backgrounds, points to underlying challenges that still need addressing to ensure inclusive growth and workforce reintegration.
