Rep. Jeon Yong-ki Requests Investigation from the Ministry of Personnel Management over Allegations of Inappropriate Intervention by Kim Yong-won; Kim Yong-won Calls it Groundless
The Democratic Party's Rep. Jeon Yong-ki has requested an investigation from the Ministry of Personnel Management regarding allegations of inappropriate intervention by former National Human Rights Commission member Kim Yong-won in promotions and personnel decisions.
Rep. Jeon Yong-ki of the Democratic Party has raised concerns over allegations that former National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Kim Yong-won improperly intervened in personnel matters and promotion evaluations. During a press conference held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 20th, Jeon stated that there had been additional reports of misconduct regarding Kim's involvement, prompting him to formally request an investigation from the Ministry of Personnel Management. He emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in promotion processes and urged the ministry to conduct a thorough investigation to clear any doubts related to the allegations.
In November of last year, during a National Assembly inspection, Jeon had previously questioned NHRC Chairman Ahn Chang-ho about Kim's alleged pressuring of superior evaluations for certain staff members, despite their lower ranks. Jeon pointed out that there were reports asserting that a lower-ranked staff member who had worked closely with Kim was promoted to a higher position, implying undue influence. He also emphasized that such interference in promotion assessments could severely harm the reputation of the commission and its operations, seeking corrective measures from relevant authorities.
In response to the allegations, Kim Yong-won communicated with the media, asserting that the claims were without merit and questioned the timing and motivation behind them. He stated that deserving candidates for promotion had not been elevated due to delays in the evaluations. The unfolding situation sheds light on potential administrative ethical issues within the NHRC and raises critical discussions regarding personnel integrity and oversight in governmental bodies.
