Fake gold biscuits, 1.5 million fraud, and... 4 members of an inter-state gang arrested

Police in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district have arrested four members of an inter-state gang involved in cheating people using fake gold biscuits.

In a significant crackdown, the police have exposed an inter-state gang operating in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district that has been defrauding unsuspecting victims through fake gold biscuits. The operation, a joint effort by the Kotwali police station and the Cyber Cell, led to the arrest of four accused individuals. During the arrest, officers recovered cash, gold bangles, and mobile phones, totaling approximately 3.7 million rupees worth of fraudulent goods that had been obtained from victims.

According to reports, the investigation began when a victim filed a complaint at the Kotwali police station on March 8, alleging that a woman named Manju, who had been selling ghee from her home for the past seven to eight years, had defrauded her. Manju had posed as a resident of Kishangarh in Rajasthan, using this false identity to scheme against the victim. Prior to the Holi festival, she brought fake gold biscuits to the victim's house, pressuring her with a story about an upcoming wedding and convincing her to create jewelry.

On March 7, around 4:45 PM, Manju returned with two female accomplices and managed to extract nearly 200 grams of gold jewelry and 1.5 million rupees in cash from the victim under the pretense of urgency related to a wedding. In return, she handed over the counterfeit gold biscuits, successfully deceiving the victim. This incident highlights the growing issue of scams involving fake gold, emphasizing the need for public awareness and vigilance against such fraudulent schemes.
