When the Battlefield is the Human Mind: The Riflemen Take Action

Lithuania's Riflemen Union has established a specialized information operations unit to enhance resilience against informational threats and strengthen capabilities in non-military activities.

In a significant move to bolster Lithuania's defense against informational threats, the Riflemen Union has created a specialized information operations company as part of their King Mindaugas Battalion. This initiative follows discussions with a Ukrainian officer from the Aidar Battalion in 2014, which has inspired the formation of military capabilities focused on information operations. This development is streamlined towards fortifying the skills of the Riflemen in non-armed activities, strengthening public resilience against misinformation and propaganda.

Major Donatas Giknius, the commander of the newly formed 1016th Information Operations Company, emphasized that this unit is the first of its kind within the Riflemen Union, intended to address both training and operational readiness in the sphere of information operations. This company's establishment marks a crucial step in the organization’s efforts to adapt to the evolving nature of warfare, where public opinion and information campaigns play a pivotal role on the battlefield.

Moreover, the Riflemen Union plans to extend its information capabilities throughout its network, leveraging insights and the experiences gathered by the 1016th Company. This initiative was partly discussed at a recent conference in Kaunas, highlighting the growing recognition of the importance of information warfare and the need for enhanced training and resources to combat the spread of false narratives and misinformation in Lithuania.
