"Latvian Pharmacy" plans to sell 19 pharmacies and one branch to the owner of "Moon Pharmacy"

'Latvijas aptieka' plans to divest 19 pharmacies and a branch to optimize its business model following restructuring approval.

Latvian Pharmacy (Latvijas aptieka) has applied to the Competition Council (KP) regarding its restructuring process, prompting it to assess the sale of 19 pharmacies and one branch. Previously, the company secured permission from KP to finalize a deal with SIA "Farma Balt aptieka" for the acquisition of 18 pharmacies, and now seeks to sell off locations that no longer fit its new, efficient network structure.

Company CEO Alvis Δ’rglis explained that the goal is to create a financially stable, robust, and sustainable pharmacy network. After evaluating the current structure, the management found that maintaining certain pharmacies and their effective oversight is resource-intensive and affects the overall efficiency of the network. Therefore, they decided to implement an optimized network management model to strengthen the business.

The restructuring process will involve divesting these pharmacies to 'Sentor Farm Pharmacies', alongside ongoing discussions with other interested parties regarding the sale of more pharmacy locations. This strategic move indicates a significant shift in the pharmacy market landscape in Latvia as companies aim for improved operational efficiencies and sustainability within the healthcare sector.
