Eid al-Fitr: IG orders deployment of policemen to prayer grounds, recreation centres

The Inspector-General of Police in Nigeria has ordered a nationwide deployment of tactical police units to ensure safety during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

In anticipation of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has mandated the deployment of tactical police teams across Nigeria. This measure aims to guarantee the safety and security of citizens during this period, which marks the end of Ramadan. The IG expressed warm greetings to the Muslim community in Nigeria, congratulating them on completing their fasting and celebrating Eid.

The police directive, communicated through spokesperson Anthony Placid, calls for enhanced security measures across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Commissioners of Police and other Tactical Commanders are instructed to ensure that police presence is prominent at prayer grounds and recreation centers, areas expected to attract large gatherings of people during the celebrations.

This initiative includes mobilizing various police units, such as the Special Intervention Squad and intelligence operatives, which are crucial in managing the potential security challenges during such a festive occasion. The operational strategies laid out by the IG reflect the police's commitment to public safety and the promotion of peace during significant religious festivities in Nigeria.
