The São Paulo Attorneys Association (Apesp) is launching the Anna Candida da Cunha Ferraz award on October 20 to recognize and honor women's contributions to the strengthening of the Democratic Rule of Law. The inaugural recipient will be Inês dos Santos Coimbra, who is notably the first Black woman to hold the position of Attorney General of the State of São Paulo. The ceremony will take place at the Apesp headquarters in São Paulo at 3 PM.
This award is named after Anna Candida da Cunha Ferraz, who served as Attorney General from 1975 to 1979. The establishment of this award highlights the importance of acknowledging women's roles in public advocacy and aims to inspire future generations of female attorneys to take on leadership positions with technical excellence and a strong institutional commitment. José Luiz Souza de Moraes, the president of Apesp, emphasized the award's permanence and its purpose of recognizing impactful professional journeys.
By creating this annual award, Apesp demonstrates a commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment within public advocacy, aiming to empower women and encourage them to step into influential roles. The event not only honors a pivotal figure in the legal landscape but also sets a precedent for the ongoing recognition of women’s contributions in law, which is essential for fostering equality and representation within the field.
