Award recognizes 6 researchers from federal universities and FGV for their contributions to science
Six researchers were honored at the 2nd Women and Science Award in Brazil for their contributions to science and innovation.
The 2nd Women and Science Award, organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), honored six female researchers from federal universities and FGV for their significant contributions to science and innovation. The award aims to promote and encourage women's participation in scientific research, emphasizing the importance of gender diversity in the field. The ceremony took place on Thursday, October 5, in Brasília.
In addition to recognizing established researchers, the award also celebrated three high school students in a category aimed at encouraging young female talents in science. The students, Lara Dourado Borges, Raíssa da Luz Rangel, and Laíza Bride, received scholarships of R$ 5,000 each along with a trophy for their achievements. This initiative underscores the importance of nurturing the next generation of women in science and providing them with opportunities for growth and development.
Moreover, three institutions were acknowledged for their efforts in promoting women's inclusion in science. The Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), and the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) were awarded a financial prize of R$ 50,000 each for their exemplary work in this regard. This recognition is crucial as it highlights the institutions' commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that supports female researchers and contributes to the advancement of science in Brazil.
