MT has more than 200,000 voters without registered biometrics, says TRE

Mato Grosso has over 203,000 voters without registered biometrics, representing 7.89% of the electorate, prompting electoral authorities to initiate registration drives from March 19 to 27.

In Mato Grosso, Brazil, more than 203,700 voters lack registered biometrics, which accounts for approximately 7.89% of the state's electorate, according to a recent report from the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-MT). This situation has led to the decision by electoral authorities to embark on a series of registration drives aimed at resolving these biometric registration issues. The initiative will begin on March 19 and will continue until March 27, providing voters with opportunities to register in various locations outside traditional electoral offices.

Out of a total of 2.5 million eligible voters in the state, around 92% have completed their biometric registration. However, it is troubling that nearly half of the outstanding registrations are concentrated in just ten municipalities. Some of the main cities where voters are still without biometric registration include Cuiabá, Várzea Grande, Rondonópolis, Sorriso, and Tangará da Serra, along with smaller municipalities such as Confresa, Juína, Colniza, Paranatinga, and Juara.

The electoral authority's move to facilitate biometrics registration through outreach initiatives not only aims to boost registration rates but also to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the voting process. Ensuring that all eligible voters are biometrically registered is vital for the integrity of future elections, and these drives are a proactive strategy to help mitigate any potential issues prior to the upcoming electoral cycle.
