TRE-PA Begins Alerting Voters via WhatsApp to Update Biometric Registration and Reduce Queues on Election Day

The Electoral Regional Court of Pará (TRE-PA) initiated sending WhatsApp messages to voters to update their biometric registration and lessen waiting times on election day.

The Electoral Regional Court of Pará (TRE-PA) has launched a campaign to alert voters through WhatsApp, aiming to encourage them to update their biometric registration before the upcoming elections. Starting on Monday, the court plans to send a total of 500,000 messages by April, targeting about 300,000 voters who have yet to complete their biometrics and an additional 200,000 voters registered in areas identified as overcrowded voting sections. This initiative aims to streamline the voting process and reduce long queues on election day.

TRE-PA's Secretary of Information Technology, Felipe Brito, emphasized that the messages will be directed at voters who are already eligible but haven't completed their biometric registration. Additionally, the alert aims to support voters from overcrowded sections to facilitate their choice of a less busy polling location, effectively minimizing their waiting times at the ballots. The focus will be on municipalities with high numbers of voters lacking biometrics or those with high-density voting areas to maximize the impact of this outreach effort.

To ensure voter safety against scams, TRE-PA has assured constituents that they will employ verified accounts for this outreach, thus fostering trust among the voters. The initiative reflects the court's commitment to improving voter participation by making the election process more efficient and accessible, ultimately enhancing the overall experience on election day.
