“Journalists in War”: Major Conference in the Holy City of Messolonghi
A conference titled 'Journalists in War' will take place in March 2026 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Heroic Exit, highlighting the role of journalists in war.
The municipality of the Holy City of Messolonghi, in collaboration with the Educative Foundation of the Greek Journalists' Union and POESY, is organizing a significant conference titled 'Journalists in War' on March 20-21, 2026. This event marks the 200th anniversary of the Heroic Exit (1826-2026) and will be held at the Trikoupes Cultural Center, emphasizing the vital role journalists have played in conflict situations throughout history.
Sponsored by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), which represents over 600,000 media professionals across more than 140 countries, the conference aims to showcase the contributions of journalists starting from the era of the 'Greek Chronicles' by Ioannis-Iakovos Mayer to contemporary challenges faced by war journalism. This will be the first time such an event is hosted in Greece, underscoring the significance of the country's historical context in journalistic coverage during conflicts.
Numerous prominent representatives from the international journalistic community are expected to participate in the conference, providing a platform for discussions around the evolution of war journalism, the challenges reporters face in the modern age, and the ongoing importance of their work in documenting and reporting on conflicts. The event aims to educate and inspire current and future journalists about their crucial roles on the front lines of reporting in war-torn areas.
