A major conference titled 'Journalists in War' is set to take place in Messolonghi, Greece, from March 20-21, 2026, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Heroic Exit (1826β2026).
In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Heroic Exit (1826β2026), the Municipality of the Sacred City of Messolonghi, the Educational Foundation of the Greek Federation of Journalists (ESIHEA), and the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists' Unions (POESY) are co-organizing a conference titled 'Journalists in War' on March 20-21, 2026, at the Trikoupios Cultural Center. This event will be the first of its kind held in Greece and aims to shed light on the important role of journalists in war situations throughout history. The conference is under the patronage of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the largest organization for journalists worldwide, representing over 600,000 media professionals from 187 unions and organizations across more than 140 countries. The event aims to explore the evolution of war journalism from historical perspectives, starting from the 'Greek Chronicles' by Ioannis-Iakovos Mayer to contemporary challenges faced by reporters in conflict zones. Prominent representatives from the international journalism community are expected to take part in the conference, adding weight to discussions about the critical contributions and challenges of journalism in times of war. This gathering not only honors historical events but also opens dialogue about the future of journalistic practices in light of ongoing global conflicts.
